Parenting Teens Tips
- Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips
- Use face paint instead of a mask.
- If using a mask, make sure it’s not too large; can youth
see through holes provided?
- Costumes: Make sure they are not too long (child may trip) or
too big (do they have to hold part of the costume up with their
hands?) Alter to fit.
- Decorate a flashlight for child to carry as part of their costume.
- Children should be accompanied by an adult or older teenager (go
in groups).
- Candy bag should be an appropriate size for child to carry, remember
it will get heavier throughout the evening. An adult can carry any
extra small/medium size bag to exchange when it gets filled so the
child doesn't trip or bag breaks. Small pillow cases are good.
- Candy should be checked by an adult before eating.
- Trick-or-Treat only at homes that you know the people (neighbors,
relatives, etc.)
- Never go inside a home even if you are invited.
- Don't eat homemade treats unless you and your family know the
people (relatives).
- Limit the amount of treats a child eats over several days; remember
they probably have been eating while trick-or-treating.
